PLANNED 2003
Yes we made many plans for 2003, many have been accomplished and some are still in process. Here is a list of a few of the projects with some background information.
1. We have been making great changes to Maggie's Manor. We added on to the house, tripling the size of the kitchen, installing new appliances and cabinets, adding a breakfast nook, and adding a huge deck which adjoins the kitchen and dinning room, and we are opened up the dinning room wall to expand the beautiful water and mountain view for the dining room and breakfast nook. The newly renovated Maggie's Manor will elegantly handle the large get-togethers we have had requested. These words do not due justice to the huge improvement that is being made. Pictures of the remodel have just been posted to this web site. Remodel Page
2.We are planning to renovate the grounds of the Gnome House. More on this subject in the future.
3. Many guests have: used our vacation rentals for housing wedding guests; used the Gnome House for their Honeymoon; used the Gnome House for anniversaries; or gotten engaged in one of our houses or somewhere on our property. Many others have inquired about weddings and wedding receptions. We had an Orcas Island Wedding Reception for our oldest boy Robert and his new wife Darlene at Maggie's Manor. We were all blessed by a young couple's wedding at the Gnome House one spring. see BLESSINGS We want to make arrangements for wedding receptions and weddings here at our 140 acre estate and so we are working on ways to do that. Right now we are ready to allow wedding receptions for parties up to 50 under current laws requiring special permits for music for parties of 50 or more. We absolutely want to insure the peace and quiet of our neighbors although we do have 140 acres which helps and summer is a festive time around Deer Harbor. We have many beautiful garden areas and points of commanding water views and vistas, garden ponds and streams worthy of consideration. We are all gardeners who are quite creative and creative wood workers too. See www.orcasrec.com/gnome.html and www.orcasrec.com/gnome2.html . and we are designing and working on some new wedding spots this year. We can house about 20 guests here between our two vacation rentals and an attached apartment to our home. There are many other vacation rentals, hotel rooms, cabins, and Bed and Breakfasts near by and several exquisite caterers live next door. We plan to plant many cut flower gardens this year and next to add to our already voluminous supply.
4. We are diligently working on new Gardens this summer that will be mostly completed this year. Since this year's project takes in over 5 acres I know that it will be partially under construction for awhile. We have been constructing a few tent platforms and a gazebo kitchen to help our fantastic crew of gardener Gnomes. These will double as agriculture education facilities in the future. You might be interested to know that our closest neighbors are World famous Permaculturists that have some of the best ideas for recreating the garden of Eden that I have ever heard. Permaculture came from the idea of permanent agriculture. Agriculture that weaves its way into every way of life and every style of development instead of just segregated farming. It's a way of reducing waste including time by helping propagate natural self-tending crops which feed both man and beast. Of course there is still work involved but more and more production is sustained. I guarantee you will find it impossible to run out of some fruits and berries at some times here. You may enjoy talking to them and touring their rich gardens. It seems like there are always some new fruits, berries or vegetables growing in their gardens and ours. I had a tomato last year that tasted like a toasted tomato and cheese sandwich. Now that's a boon to dieters.
More info to come as I have time. This section will grow so keep coming back.
